1-1 with Fiorentina. Inter have a problem: they can no longer win. The title race reopens
Inter shows signs of crisis: disappointing results and loss of leadership with eight days to go
Attention: with eight days to go, the alarm is ringing: Inter has a problem. A serious problem. The leader is not going, plays badly, runs little, makes many mistakes. In short, it looks like the faded photocopy of the unstoppable one of a couple of months ago.
At the Franchi, against Fiorentina, it gets a tiring 1-1 that displeases more the violets than the Nerazzurri. And to say that after not even 40 seconds, thanks to a dart of Pio Esposito, they had immediately gone ahead. A lightning start, however, that lasted little. Fiorentina, despite being fresh from the exertions of the Conference League, gained ground and managed to equalise (after a bad mistake by Barella), with Nodur scoring his second goal of the season.
Another false step, that of the Nerazzurri, which sows bewilderment. Calhanoglu's comeback and the good vein of Pio, who scored for the sixth time, were not enough. The feeling is that Inter is afraid. That its leaders have disappeared. That it is psychologically cornered. And in addition it has a precarious physical condition. In its last three matches, between the league and the Coppa Italia, it has drawn twice and lost once. Milan now trail it by six points and Napoli by seven. A fair lead, but not an unbridgeable one, especially taking into account that Chivu's team, after the break for the national team, will have to face first Roma and then Como, both in strong growth and fighting for the Champions League. True, Milan and Napoli will have to cross each other, but at this point nothing is taken for granted. Before the national team, a convincing reply was needed to extinguish any attempt at a comeback. Instead, this draw confirms the not-so-dark evil of the Nerazzurri. Who certainly still have a good chance of winning the title, provided, however, that there is a reaction from the whole group. For the first time, one has the feeling that Chivu himself is in trouble, he can no longer make an impact. Instead, Fiorentina did well, moving two points away from the relegation red zone. Perhaps, unlike Inter, it has really turned around.
Milan-Torino 3-2. The Diavolo were back in the running, regaining second place after the defeat at the Olimpico against Lazio. An important success, for the classification, but that changes little the judgement on Milan. Slow, unmotivated, predictable especially in the first half when Torino played better. The Rossoneri changed face when Allegri replaced Tomori with Athekame, switching to a three-pronged attack. At that point, the Diavolo gave the gas: in a few minutes Rabiot and Fofana sunk Toro, who then, thanks to a questionable penalty, partially re-entered the game. What can we say? It's the usual well-known Milan: starting with the handbrake on because Allegri fears they won't be able to cope with higher rhythms for 90 minutes. Now though, if he really wants to get Inter breathing down Inter's neck, he has to change pace. The front line has to wake up. Fullkrugg is as stationary as a kart, Pulisc hasn't scored for three months. Leao? Mah, the injury is less serious than expected. He should be back soon. Not his ghost, though.
Cagliari-Napoli 0-1. It's strange this Napoli winning its fourth consecutive game. On the one hand it is scary because it is recovering all its best players. On the other hand, despite taking the lead immediately with the usual Mc Tominay, it does not go beyond a narrow 1-0 that is not entirely convincing. "Nobody can stop us from putting pressure on those ahead of us," said Conte, making it clear that, with 24 points still available, anything can still happen. The coach has understood that the Neapolitan environment still believes and is blowing on the fire. His strength is that, having come out of the cups, Napoli have returned to training regularly. And the injured are almost all recovered, especially De Bruyne and Anguissa. In short, Conte is back, as he likes it.
Como-Pisa 5-0. If it wasn't fourth, 12 points behind Inter, Fabregas' team could be a serious candidate, not only for the Champions League, but also for the Scudetto. Not so much for the 'manita' (goals by Diao, Douvikas, Baturina, Nico Paz and Perrone) against Pisa, which only counts for a certain point, but for the contagious confidence with which this team moves, fearing no one. It plays from memory, having fun and entertaining its guards. Apart from Nico Paz, there are no big names, but everyone moves perfectly according to Fabregas' tactical instructions. He may not be likeable, and he may even be rather arrogant, but he has the merit of having built a team in his own image and likeness, as all Italian coaches should be able to do, but they make do with what they can get away with.
Roma-Lecce 1-0. A victory was needed, to react to the European disappointment, and victory came. It was a bit narrow, not exactly a thousand a night, but with this victory over the Salentini, Roma saw the light again after almost a month of abstinence (the last victory was against Cremonese). Thus Gasp's Giallorossi hooked Juve into fifth place on 54 points. The decisive goal came from 19-year-old Frenchman Robinio Vaz, who came on in the second half to help out Malen, who had failed to break through the Lecce defence. Now Di Francesco is in more and more trouble.
