1 May long weekend, over 7 million Italians ready to leave
The majority will remain in Italy with a per capita budget of around 320 euro

The weather forecast is favourable, with fine weather and rising temperatures. Reason enough to organise a short holiday, the 3-day long weekend for 1 May. About 7.2 million Italians are ready to leave, of whom 43% plan a couple of nights away from home, another 31% for 3 or 4 nights and 18% just one night. There is also a minority (8%) who have planned a trip with 5 or more nights away from home.
The average per capita expenditure is around 320 euros, a budget that for most Italians means a couple of nights away from home. "The May Day holiday is a traditional stop for Italia tourism, which favours our country especially in this time of uncertainty," says Manfred Pinzger, president of Confturismo-Confcommercio. While waiting for the summer break, as Confturismo - Confcommercio we are keeping a close eye on the needs of both the incoming and outgoing sector.
According to the Confturismo-Confcommercio Observatory, in collaboration with Swg, only 20% of Italians will go abroad. The destinations preferred by those who will travel outside their own region in first place is Emilia Romagna (11%), followed by Tuscany (9%). Among the preferred destinations, seaside resorts and cities of art stand out, both indicated by 19% of travellers, followed by large cities (13%). As far as travel companions are concerned, the preferred formula is couples, chosen by 59% of travellers, while 1 in 4 will travel with friends (26%). With reference to the formula chosen for hospitality, the preferred solution is accommodation (hotel and bed & breakfast) for 59% of travellers. This is followed by staying in a friend's house or second home (18%) and short-term rental houses (7%).
