There are those who are leaving at the weekend and those who are preparing their luggage for a trip that will start on Wednesday or Thursday after celebrating New Year's Eve. Italians who have purchased an organised trip, be it a complete package or simple tickets, in an agency number around 1.3 million, of which 850 thousand are heading for a foreign destination. Compared to the same period last year, the trend in bookings shows a slight drop of 4%. The reason for this, according to Assoviaggi - Cst, is to be found in the increase in global tourism demand, which has caused the prices of airline tickets and tourist services to rise. These increases are particularly felt by Italian customers due to their lower spending capacity. A phenomenon that penalises Italian destinations and favours more competitive foreign ones. However, among those who will be travelling, two thirds have chosen to leave between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. The most popular destinations are the 'classic' European destinations, while cruises, group trips with guide-guides and the more expensive tailor-made trips are on the rise. Also good are adventure trips, those with itineraries and sports routes, and finally tours to countries bathed by the Mediterranean.
Among the many short-haul destinations abroad, the convenient Morocco stands out with a strong increase in demand as well as the capitals of Spain, France, Austria and the United Kingdom. In medium-haul, bookings reward Egypt with its Red Sea resorts, while demand for colder destinations such as Scandinavia is declining. In 'long-haul', the Caribbean, the United States, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam stand out, with these destinations also on the increase compared to 2023. There was also no shortage of requests for Madagascar, Argentina, Seychelles, South Africa and Australia, as well as the Maldives, Kenya, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Mexico and Mauritius. For those staying in Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige stands out among the most popular regions. Tuscany, Campania, Lazio, Sicily and Veneto follow.
