The first weekend of June coincides with the Republic Day bridge: it is the first test of the upcoming summer exodus. Anas (Gruppo Fs Italiane) expects heavy traffic for both local and long-distance journeys, with priority given to seaside resorts. Anas's objective is to ensure that the network is manned to guarantee the best practicability, prevent and minimise traffic disruption.

Republic Day

In view of the coming weekend, traffic will intensify between the evening of Friday 30 May and the morning of Saturday 31 with a greater concentration on the routes to the seaside resorts. Most affected will be the state roads on the Ionian, Adriatic and Tyrrhenian sides, particularly between Tuscany and Liguria and along the coasts of Campania, Calabria and Basilicata, as well as the A2 Mediterranean motorway, also to reach the embarkations for Sicily. Return journeys to the big cities are planned for the evening of 2 June along the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo, State Roads 18 Tirrena Inferiore and 106 Jonica in Calabria, the A19 Motorway in Sicily, State Road 1 'Aurelia' between Lazio, Tuscany and Liguria, the Grande Raccordo Anulare in Lazio, State Road SS309 'Romea' and State Road SS16 'Adriatica'.

Transit facilitation

.

To facilitate travel in the coming hours, in Calabria, the Coreca tunnel on State Road 18 'Tirrena Inferiore', in the municipality of Amantea in the province of Cosenza, has been reopened, where Anas has completed structural upgrading work. A construction site has also been removed in Emilia-Romagna, where the bridge over the Rio Torto along the SS 12 Abetone and Brenner road in Serramazzoni in the province of Modena has been reopened to traffic in both directions. Transit will be permitted for all vehicles except those over 44 tonnes. In Tuscany, the traffic light on the SS223 'di Paganico' (Grosseto-Siena) at Civitella Paganico was removed. In Basilicata, traffic has been re-established along the SS18 'Tirrena Inferiore' in Maratea (PZ), in the Castrocucco area, in the 7 a.m.-11 p.m. time slot, until 30 June. The reopening by Anas was made possible following a request from the Commissioner, who is in charge of managing the monitoring and access control system.

Heavy goods vehicle traffic suspended

.

On the entire road and motorway network, the circulation of heavy vehicles will be suspended on Sunday 1 June and Monday 2 June from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. During the long weekend, staff supervision will be increased and guaranteed. Anas's road presence will be 2,050 resources in shifts, technical and operating personnel, plus 230 units from the Territorial Operations Rooms and the National Situation Room to ensure 24-hour real time traffic monitoring.

Anas, a company of the Italian FS Group, reminds that when you drive, Drive and Stop! No distractions, no alcohol, no drugs for your safety and that of others (guidaebasta.it).
