A 34-year-old worker dies after a roof collapse in the Livorno area

A 34-year-old worker lost his life whilst carrying out work at a metalworking company in Rosignano Solvay, in the province of Livorno. According to initial reports, the man, an employee of a specialist firm based in Lombardy, was replacing an asbestos cement roof when the roof he was standing on suddenly collapsed. The collapse caused him to fall to the ground from a height of around six metres. Emergency services from the 118 emergency number arrived at the scene immediately, but there was nothing that could be done for the worker: the paramedics could only confirm his death. Technical staff from the local health authority were also present, tasked with carrying out the necessary investigations to accurately reconstruct the sequence of events and verify compliance with workplace safety regulations. The site has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities. Investigations are continuing to establish any liability.
