Transforming Cosenza's rivers from a threat to the territory into a resource, mitigating, to begin with, the hydraulic risk of the Busento, Crati and Campagnano basins, by securing the riverbeds to improve accessibility and pedestrian accessibility and preserving architectural elements of historical and cultural value. The project envisages regularising the flow of water by means of 'adequate reprofiling of the hydraulic section' and restoring 'the hydraulic officiousness of the watercourses', with the clearing of infesting vegetation.
The historical memory of the city has made the rivers identity elements: Crati and Busento in medieval times surrounded the Pancrazio hill, making it impregnable to the enemy. The interventions envisaged by the municipality's project aim to be respectful not only of the environment but also of the symbolic value of the landscape, taking into consideration the relationships between the works and the valuable elements of the territory that boasts a rich urban composition. The project, financed with 4 million, envisages walkways and trekking routes close to the old city, with the aim of implementing gentle tourism, also to relaunch the territories' economy.
