Incident during a NATO exercise in Latvia: four Italian soldiers wounded by friendly fire
An Italian military vehicle accidentally fired on another during a training exercise in Ādaži, resulting in casualties who were taken to Riga for emergency treatment.
An incident involving Italian military personnel during a NATO training exercise in Latvia. During a live-fire exercise in Ādaži, a vehicle carrying four Italian Army soldiers was struck by a non-automatic firearm mounted on another Italian military vehicle.
The four, one of whom is in a more serious condition, were immediately given first aid and taken to a hospital in Riga , where they are currently receiving the necessary treatment and undergoing the necessary tests: none of them are, at present, in a life-threatening condition. They have already contacted their families in person, whilst the fourth person, whose condition is considered the most serious, is in a stable condition.
Soldiers wounded; machine-gun fire from one armoured vehicle towards another
A burst of machine-gun fire was accidentally fired from a ‘Dardo’ armoured vehicle at another vehicle of the same type travelling ahead of it with its tailgate open, perhaps because the soldiers were getting out of the vehicle.
Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing. .
