Accidents, Inail: 74,050 complaints from students of all levels, eight deaths

In November 2025, 74,050 accident reports were filed with Inail by students of all levels, up 5.5% from 70,206 in 2024. Of the more than 74,000 accident reports, 1,741 concerned students involved in 'school-to-work' training, down 7.2% from 2024. The incidence of injuries occurring to students accounts for 13.4% of the total number of reported injuries in 2025. 42% involve female students (+5.7% increase between 2024 and 2025), 58% students (+5.3%). Three out of four accidents concern students under 15, a quarter those aged 15 and over.

Lombardy is the region with the most complaints (24% of the national total, +8.0% over 2024), followed by Veneto (13%, +10.7%), Emilia Romagna (12%, +5.7%) and Piedmont (10%, +9.6%). Ninety-five per cent of the complaints concerned students in state schools, the remaining five per cent students in non-state and public schools. Ninety-seven per cent of the reported cases occur during school activities, 3% on the way to and from school. There were eight fatal cases reported to Inail by November 2025 compared to 14 in 2024.
