Excise duties: the new, reduced discount comes into effect – here’s how much the price of diesel will rise
The strategy put in place by the Government to emerge from the long and costly process of excise duty cuts involves discounts in several stages
Another decree, another cut in excise duty on diesel. From today, this reduction is slightly smaller than in recent weeks, falling from -17.1 cents per litre to -12.2 cents per litre. In practical terms, for motorists this means a net increase in the price of diesel of five cents.
How high will the price of diesel go?
It is therefore reasonable to assume that prices at petrol stations will exceed 2.3 euros per litre. There is no need to point out that this will be an all-time record, given that new highs are being set day after day.
Further price rises from next week
The strategy put in place by the Government to emerge from the long and costly period of excise duty cuts also involves a further reduction in the discount from next week. From 26 September – that is, next Saturday – the cut will be 6.1 cents per litre, which will mean a further price rise of around six cents.
It is clear that making price forecasts at this stage makes little sense. This is because a number of factors influence the final prices: these obviously include the cost of raw materials, with the price of Brent crude – although it has fallen – remaining stable at over 100 dollars a barrel.
