"The commitment of the past four years and the results to the benefit of accountants have been rewarded," says President de Nuccio, who summarises the priorities of his new mandate as follows: "Consolidate the work that has been started and make the professional dignity of accountants and the recognition of their role in the country's institutional framework grow more and more. For de Nuccio, it is also necessary to focus on young people; the reform provides for the entire apprenticeship to be carried out during the course of studies and various initiatives are being studied for the under-35s, including free training.
The contender, Claudio Siciliotti, head of the 'Union of Territories' list, spends quiet words. "I phoned de Nuccio. I congratulated him. I will work in favour of unity, that which does not erase different positions, but knows how to make them an asset. In this sense I urged de Nuccio'. Siciliotti does not hide the reasons that have divided the two lists, 'for example, on the reform of the professions. We need to claim exclusivity and not simply typical activities'. But, as he also stated during the debate at the Congress of the National Union of Young Accountants in Naples at the end of March, good ideas must be supported regardless of authorship.
The decline in enrolments and trainees
Elbano de Nuccio will therefore continue his work at the top of the accountants from tomorrow. The category is one of the most numerous, although the decline in the number of registered members and trainees and the increase in the average age have been worrying for some time: those registered under 40 years of age are 16.5 per cent. The Register has 119,952 members (as at 31 December 2024), slightly down on the previous year (- 0.4 per cent) but up by 11.6 per cent compared to 1 January 2008 (the year of the merger of the registers of accountants and bookkeepers).
The number of trainees decreased from 11,707 in 2023 to 11,039 at the end of 2024 (- 5.7%). From the first 2026 data - provided by Cassa dottori - however, the number of trainees pre-registered with the social security institution increased from 169 in 2025 to 370 in 2026; the merit probably lies in the scholarships for trainees financed in part by the dominus and in part by the social security institution, which invested 5 million in this initiative.
