Those who work with images know how much time can be lost in technical operations: adjusting edges, adjusting lighting, removing unwanted elements. Steps that are often necessary, but slow down the entire creative flow. Adobe is trying to change the rules of the game by announcing an update to Photoshop that introduces new features based on generative artificial intelligence with the aim of easing repetitive tasks and offering more intuitive and precise tools, available on desktop, web and mobile devices.
Harmonize: the perfect merger in one click
.The most relevant new feature is called Harmonize (in beta), a function previewed as 'Project Perfect Blend' at the Adobe MAX 2024 conference. Taking advantage of the Firefly Image model, Harmonize analyses the image context and automatically adapts the colour, lighting, shadows and tone of the inserted elements. The result is visually consistent and realistic compositions that can be achieved without time-consuming manual operations. The function is available in beta on Photoshop desktop and web, and in preview on iOS.
Generative Upscale: resolution is no longer a limit
.Also in beta, Generative Upscale allows the resolution of an image to be increased up to 8 megapixels while maintaining sharpness and detail. A useful tool for those working with materials intended for printing, or for updating low-quality images for reuse on digital materials.
Remove tool enhanced: surgical cleaning
.The Remove tool, already popular with users, now uses the latest Firefly model to remove unwanted elements with greater precision. Whether electrical wires in a landscape or imperfections in a portrait, the tool not only removes but reconstructs the background naturally, with fewer artefacts and more professional results.
Projects: collaboration becomes fluid
.For creative teams comes Projects (in beta), a new function designed to bring together entire collections of assets in one shared space. The aim is to reduce the fragmentation of work, avoiding the dispersion of files between hard disks, clouds and email exchanges. A solution that improves collaboration and simplifies the management of ongoing projects.
