Aeroitalia opens base in Genoa, daily flights to Rome from 2026
The new connections will start in February. Managing director Intrieri: 'We aim to progressively expand the network of destinations from the Ligurian capital'
A base with two permanent aircraft at the airport and a new two-day connection to Rome from Monday to Friday; as well as a flight to the capital on Saturdays and Sundays. All this, starting on Monday 2 February 2026. This is what Gaetano Intrieri, the airline's managing director, and Enrico Musso, president of Cristoforo Colombo, announced.
In short, Aeroitalia has decided to invest in Genoa airport, identifying it as the location for a new base that will see around 20 of the company's crew members reside in Genoa. At the same time, the company will launch a new connection with Rome, providing passengers with a 68-seat Atr 72-600. The frequencies will include, from Monday to Friday, a first morning flight (Genoa - Rome at 8 a.m. and Rome - Genoa at 10.20 a.m.) and a second evening flight (Genoa - Rome at 6.05 p.m. and Rome - Genoa at 9.05 p.m.); at the weekend: one flight on Saturday (Genoa - Rome at 8 a.m.; Rome - Genoa at 10.20 a.m.) and one on Sunday (Genoa - Rome at 6.05 p.m. and Rome - Genoa at 9.05 p.m.).
Aeroitalia's decision to open a base at Colombo with two aircraft will allow, underline the parties involved, to guarantee full and constant service continuity with the capital in case of maintenance activities on the first aircraft. 'Aeroitalia's decision to invest in Genoa city airport with a real base,' says Musso, 'demonstrates Colombo's newfound attractiveness on the market and further recognition of its potential. 'The new route will contribute to strengthening connectivity to and from the Ligurian territory, guaranteeing a further opportunity for travellers reaching the capital by train or car'.
According to Mr. Intrieri, 'the opening of an operational base in Genoa represents, for Aeroitalia, a strategic investment and a concrete sign of our will to grow together with the territories. We strongly believe in Colombo's potential and in the role it can play in improving Liguria's connectivity with the capital. The new connections with Rome, designed to meet the needs of business and leisure travellers, guarantee reliability, continuity of service and greater flexibility. This is just the first step of a path that aims to progressively expand the network of destinations from Genoa".
