Where the 'Zone 30' in Rome is activated
It will affect the Ztl zone in the historic centre: all streets, even the widest ones, such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via del Teatro Marcello and the Traforo. In addition to that zone, a thousand other streets in Rome will be brought up to 30 km/h to increase road safety, the Municipality of Rome had specified on its social media.
There will also be a general expansion of speed reduction measures in the city. Five new speed cameras are planned on the Via Cristoforo Colombo, in addition to those already in operation on the Tangenziale and Viale Newton. 175 raised pedestrian crossings and new school roads will also be built. By 2026 there will also be 40 new Photored, electronic devices for detecting infringements, with a focus on wider intersections.
Patanè: 'Let's lower the risk of mortality'
"We have a duty to reduce the speed differential between the strong and the frail, so we reduce the risk of mortality," said Mobility Councillor Eugenio Patanè. Work on speed reduction is crucial, according to Patanè, because speed generates 7.5 per cent of accidents.
Cities with 'Zone 30'
Several times, the councillor highlighted the positive results achieved by other cities. The first, among the metropolises, was Bologna, preceding Milan by a few months. While the first to experiment in Italy was Cesena, which started in 1998.
