Two missions, one in Michigan and the other in Singapore, keeping the focus on the two reference sectors for Piedmont, automotive and aerospace. Work is now underway on the 'trip' to Osaka for the Expo, while next year it could be the turn of Canada or Saudi Arabia. 'We are working to offer our industry an opportunity to diversify further,' explains Development Councillor Andrea Tronzano.
The Piedmont Region is looking at foreign markets as a strategic asset for manufacturing, which new sectors are you looking at?
We are also looking at emerging sectors, at least for Italy, such as semiconductors. In general, microelectronics is a very important sector, and we are working in that direction after the arrival of Silicon Box, which is building a new production site in Novara.
So the mission in Singapore went in this direction?
It was a mission within a trade fair, Semicon Southeast Asia. However, we also took the opportunity to talk about trade, shipping, i.e. logistics, luxury and aerospace. The Silicon Box experience may also attract other companies, we are in contact with another company that produces water purification machinery in the semiconductor production cycle. They are due to visit in July to evaluate a possible investment, because the presence of Silicon Box can also be an attractor. This is a strategic market that we also want to monitor from a financial point of view, in order to open up potential partnerships with local companies that can then access Made in China technologies and innovations. We are talking about technology transfer. With the Politecnico di Torino we would then like to work on an agreement that can grant visas to students from Turin who want to gain experience, for now only students from the Milan Polytechnic can do so.
