Agcom: 14 million fine to Cloudflare for failing to block pirated content

The Council of the Communications Guarantee Authority has imposed a fine of over EUR 14 million on the company Cloudflare. Agcom announced this in a note, specifying that the decision was taken with Commissioner Elisa Giomi voting against. The sanction comes for failure to comply with the Authority's order to Cloudflare to disable access to a series of pirated content in implementation of the provisions of Anti-Piracy Law 93/2023.

In particular, the company was asked to disable the DNS resolution of domain names and the routing of network traffic to IP addresses reported by rights holders through the Piracy Shield platform, or in any case to take the necessary technological and organisational measures to make the abusively disseminated content unavailable to end users.
