Agreement between Italpress and Lana, the Libyan News Agency, Libya’s national news agency
A cooperation agreement was signed at the agency’s Palermo office with LANA, the Libyan News Agency, Libya’s national news agency
A new milestone in Italpress’s internationalisation process. A cooperation agreement was signed at the agency’s Palermo office with LANA, the Libyan News Agency, Libya’s national news agency. This agreement strengthens dialogue between Italia and Libya in the field of news and forms part of a broader strategy of opening up to the Mediterranean and key international arenas.
The agreement provides for the mutual exchange of news, content and information, with the aim of promoting a more direct and accurate portrayal of their respective countries. However, the collaboration will not be limited to editorial activities: key elements of the agreement also include future training courses, opportunities for professional exchange and potential exchanges between journalists, with a view to mutual growth and the enhancement of skills.
For Italpress, this represents a further step towards consolidating its international network, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean region, which is becoming increasingly important from a political, economic, social and media perspective.
Abdul Baset Abudaya – Director of LANA (Libyan News Agency): “This agreement stems from the deep-rooted historical ties between the Libyan and Italian peoples, but also from the well-established relations between our two states. The collaboration with Italpress will enable news about Libya to reach Italy and Europe in a direct manner, through an official and authoritative source. At the same time, it will also allow the Libyan public to gain a better understanding of the decisions and positions being formed in Italy regarding the Libyan issue. We believe this agreement could also have significant implications in terms of training. We wish to capitalise on Italpress’s expertise and create opportunities for our journalists to develop their skills, through courses, meetings and professional exchanges.”
Gaspare Borsellino – Director of Agenzia Italpress: “We envisage a collaboration that goes beyond a simple exchange of news, but which can develop into a structured and long-lasting relationship. The aim is to work together, sharing content, experiences and expertise. To this end, we are also planning to organise journalist exchanges and training activities, offering our Libyan colleagues the opportunity to come to Italia and learn about our way of working. Then there is a very important issue: migration from Libya to Europe. It is a topic that is often reported in a biased or distorted manner, sometimes even through fake news. Through this collaboration, we want to help restore the truth of the facts, providing accurate, verified information that is closer to reality. I hope that this agreement will be beneficial to both agencies and that it marks the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership.”
