Agri-food, Guardia di finanza operation in Latina against irregular work
Substandard contracts and degrading conditions in some companies in the province brought to light. Mouse carcass found in Priverno in employee changing rooms
Contractual irregularities, foreign workers without residence permits, and degrading environmental conditions. This is what the Guardia di Finanza found by inspecting the premises of some farms in the province of Latfina. The operation by the Guardia Gialle took place as part of the fight against undeclared and irregular work, with the aim of protecting employees from abuse and exploitation.
The Guardia di Finanza operation
At the centre of the inspections started on 13 May by the military of the Provincial Command of Latina were the premises, fields and greenhouses of seven companies in the agri-food sector operating in the municipalities of Sezze, Pontinia, Cisterna di Latina, Priverno and Fondi.
More than 60 financiers took part in the maxi-operation supported by a helicopter, which was necessary - given the extent of the agricultural areas involved - to identify workers and labourers from above.
The anomalies found
After collecting the documentation on the management of the companies and the existing labour relations, the Fiamme Gialle identified 93 workers, all foreigners, mostly from India, Bangladesh and North Africa. Three of them were found to be without residence permits.
Preliminary checks, as reported by the Gdf, have revealed numerous irregularities. Some anomalies are related to the total absence of labour contracts, others to a far higher number of hours actually worked than indicated on the contract. Wages and hourly wages were also found to be lower than officially declared.
