Air force aircraft crashed in Sabaudia: two soldiers dead
The plane was found by rescuers on fire inside the Circeo National Park. The causes of the accident are not yet known. The victims are the commander of the 70th Latina Wing, Colonel Simone Mettini, and a young student pilot
The commander of the 70th Latina Wing, Colonel Simone Mettini, and a young trainee pilot of Ciociara origin are the two victims of the plane crash that occurred this morning over the Circeo National Park, in the municipality of Sabaudia. The T-260B aircraft on which the two were on board crashed during a training mission, falling for causes that are still being ascertained in the area of woodland between Migliara 49 and Cerasella, near one of the entrances to the National Park. The lifeless bodies of the colonel and the young student were found by rescuers, who were on the scene with the fire brigade, carabinieri and the support of the civil protection
"I express my deep sorrow for the accident that occurred to an Air Force aircraft near the Circeo National Park. My closeness and that of the Government to the families of the victims, to the Air Force and to the whole of Defence". Premier Giorgia Meloni wrote this on X.
