Lucca, i.e. paper. Or boating, oil, or even tourism. Actually, not only that, because debunking the most usual narrative, it is also software that relaunches employment in the area, as witnessed by Akeron's journey.

A company based in Lucca and experiencing explosive growth, able to double its workforce to 220 in just a few years. A necessary development to keep up with the market: if in fact in 2023 revenues had already risen by 50%, now there is a further acceleration, thanks to the addition of dozens of new customers. "From last year's 7.5 million in revenues," explains co-founder and co-co-CEO Manuel Vellutini, "we expect to increase to 12 million now, with prospects for further progress in the coming years. In 12 months we have already increased our workforce by 30 per cent, but obviously recruitment is continuing'.

Indeed, Akeron's target in four years is to triple its revenues and increase its workforce to 350, focusing on products developed for the enterprise market, in particular the platform that manages the sales and incentive processes of networks and the one dedicated to orders from service companies such as engineering firms.

This growth path is fuelled by additional resources, thanks to a 12 million capital increase, which brings to 30 the amount of investment raised in just over two years, a new round that will be allocated to support the development of a strategy focused on internationalisation and artificial intelligence.

"The foreign market still represents a limited share of our revenues," explains the entrepreneur, "but in reality we have only been going in this direction for a year and the results are already satisfying, with dozens of customers in France, England or the United States, for example. Or in Romania, where a few weeks ago we acquired the first Romanian bank, which intends to use this software to manage 3 thousand employees in retail branches'.

A total of more than 500 customers, companies that choose Akeron's software to manage their sales networks, for example. "The product," explains Vellutini, "was born to solve a direct need of mine in the previous company where I operated, Tagetik, where I felt the need to have an easy and complete tool to manage and incentivise the network. So the idea of developing this platform was born. Now on the mobile phone I can see every parameter in real time: the sales made, the deviation from targets, the share of contacts provided by marketing that translates into business and so on. It's also a way to anticipate problems and possibly change strategies on the fly'.

The entry into new areas, such as the development of applications in artificial intelligence, has led Akeron to expand its pool of skills, also including PhDs in physics or graduates in mathematics or statistics. 'The crux, as always these days, is finding them,' explains Vellutini, 'although working with the universities of Pisa we have good feedback. The smart working quota is in the order of 50-60%, only for specific positions do we have a 'full remote' model. The real average, however, is 27 per cent, because people prefer to be present more often anyway, and I think this is an important signal'.

In an effort to broaden the scope of its potential entry pool, Akeron is also aiming to open an office in Milan, partly to tap into a wider labour market, and partly to be able to get closer to its customers, mostly based in the North.
