Aldo Maria Brachetti, historic API guide and founder of the Pollenza winery, dies at 93

Aldo Maria Brachetti Peretti, 'captain of industry who, with the historic Api oil brand, played a leading role in almost a century of our country's economic development', has died at the age of 93 in Rome, as the company remembers him. In 1965 he joined the Group's Board of Directors, and in 1974 Brachetti became executive vice-president and managing director of Api. "Concentrating in his hands the highest management positions, he promoted the realisation of important infrastructural works, which allowed the company to increase its production and commercial level, with the consequent extension of its activity also in all the other commercial oil sectors," a note describes.
In 1977, Brachetti took over the reins of the Group upon the death of Ferdinando Peretti, whose surname he took following his marriage to Mila, the eldest daughter of the Group's Founder. He took over as Chairman and CEO of Anonima petroli italiana. Under his leadership Api went through all the key stages of the second half of the 20th century, developing refining and power generation operations. During that period the company acquired the Ip brand from Eni, which was sold by Api Holdings to Socar in September.
In 1978 Brachetti was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro. In 2007, the industrialist left his son Ugo the presidency of a group with some 4,600 Ip-branded distributors. His passion for business had led him to dedicate himself to wine and in the Marche, his homeland, he founded the Il Pollenza winery.
He led the Oil Group, where he had started working in 1957 after graduating in Economics and Commerce, for over thirty years. "With the passing of Aldo Maria Brachetti Peretti," recalls Giacomo Bugaro, councillor for Economic Development and Energy for the Marche region, "Italy loses a great captain of industry, a protagonist of post-war economic development. At the helm of the Api Group, he went through all the major transformations of the energy sector with vision and competence, contributing decisively to the country's industrial growth'. Bugaro underlined "Brachetti Peretti's strong bond with the Marche region and Falconara Marittima, where Api represents a strategic industrial reality".
