The Carabinieri of Adria (Rovigo) and the Nucleo operativo radiomobile have reported the person allegedly responsible for some damage to autoveloxes in the province of Rovigo. A person now known by the nickname 'Fleximan', the speed camera vigilante. He is a 42-year-old man, resident in Polesine, but born in Padua, who has some criminal records to his credit.

Hypothetical offence of damage

.

His house was searched and items necessary for the investigation were seized. The offence of criminal damage is alleged against him. Fleximan's modus operandi is always the same: a clean cut to the hose of the pole holding the equipment. Even the famous BBC covered it, describing Fleximan as a kind of modern-day Robin Hood. On the speed camera chapter, there are many motorists on the warpath. There are many demonstrations against certain speed cameras, which are accused of being installed by municipalities only to make money and not for safety reasons.

The damage attributed to the suspect

.

Five episodes are attributed to the suspect, in the province of Rovigo: two damage incidents in Bosaro on 19 May and 19 July last year; in Corbola and Taglio di Po on Christmas Eve; and in Rosolina, on 3 January last, along State Road 309 Romea. In reality, the damage attributed to Fleximan is many more, at least thirty in recent months. The hypothesis is that it is more than one person, also because there have often been several speed camera crashes on the same day. It is therefore excluded that it is just one person. Some mayors have called them 'criminal acts'. The police identified the man thanks to a series of videos collected in the areas where the damage occurred.

What Fleximan risks

The offence of criminal damage is provided for in Article 635 of the Criminal Code, which states: 'Whoever destroys, disperses, damages or renders useless, in whole or in part, movable or immovable property belonging to others with violence to the person or with threats, or on the occasion of the offence provided for in Article 331 (interruption of a public service, ed.), shall be punished by imprisonment of from six months to three years'.
