Almasri case, on Bartolozzi conflict of attributions at the Consulta
The offence of providing false information to prosecutors considered related to the offence against members of the government
Yes of the Chamber of Deputies to the conflict of attributions, before the Constitutional Court, against the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Ministers. At the centre is the case of the former chief of staff of the Ministry of Justice Giusi Bartolozzi accused of having lied to the prosecutors in the Almasri affair.
Shield to be extended
In essence, the Chamber of Deputies, with 47 votes to spare, asks the Consulta to extend to the magistrate (in committee at the Csm her reinstatement in the role at the Court of Appeal of Rome was voted this afternoon) and former official, who resigned from office a few weeks ago in the days immediately following the referendum vote, the immunity already voted for the Ministers of Justice Carlo Nordio, of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, and for the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano.
Related Offences
There are no reasons, is the thesis of the majority and the Government, to exclude Bartolozzi from the main proceedings and instead entrust it to the ordinary criminal trial. The possible responsibility of Nordio's former right-hand man must in fact be considered connected with those of the members of the Government and the 'shield' approved for them must be extended.
The position of the Public Prosecutor
A few days ago, however, the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office requested an indictment, alleging that Bartolozzi lied to prosecutors about the convulsive days leading up to the repatriation of the Libyan security force officer convicted by the International Criminal Court.
