Alphabet buys data centre company Intersect Power for $4.75 billion

Google's parent company Alphabet Inc. has agreed to acquire clean energy developerIntersect Power for $4.75 billion in cash, plus existing debt, signing one of the tech giant's biggest deals to power its artificial intelligence data centres.
Google had already acquired a minority stake in the energy provider last year, forming a partnership with Intersect to build large power plants next to data centre campuses.
"Intersect will help us expand capacity, operate with greater agility in building new power plants in parallel with the growing energy needs of data centres, and reinvent energy solutions to promote US innovation and leadership," said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.
Google's stock on Wall Street at 18:30 Italian time was gaining 0.48%.
