According to rumours reported in the Wall Street Journal, Alphabet (Google's parent company) is in talks to acquire the cybersecurity start-up Wiz.
A deal that could close, according to sources, at around USD 23 billion, making it the Mountain View tech giant's largest acquisition. The most expensive to date was Motorola Mobility in 2012, for $12.5 billion.
Clearly, as is now the practice, the deal could be subject to the assessments of the antitrust authorities, which have placed many vetoes on acquisitions by tech giants in recent years.
Google, moreover, already faces several antitrust challenges, including a lawsuit brought by the US Department of Justice accusing it of abusing its dominant position in online search and another concerning its digital advertising tools.
The Californian giant, a leading player in the field of artificial intelligence, has recently increased its investments in the cloud and GenAI. And although Google still lags behind Microsoft and Amazon in the cloud computing market, the company has reported that its cloud computing business is growing.
