Alphabet to invest up to USD 40 billion in Anthropic
10 billion has already been allocated
Alphabet, Google's parent company, will invest up to USD 40 billion in Anthropic. Bloomberg reports that 10 billion has already been earmarked and the further 30 billion will come if the artificial intelligence start-up reaches certain performance targets.
The news comes just days after the announcement that Amazon will invest up to $25 billion in the start-up.
Over the past year, Anthropic has seen a marked increase in demand: this month, annual sales exceeded USD 30 billion, up from around USD 9 billion at the end of 2025, thanks to the company's strategic decision to focus on training its artificial intelligence models for programming.
In February, the start-up raised $30 billion in a funding round that brought its post-money valuation to $380 billion, in the face of massive investor interest.
