Alstom, one of the world leaders in the railway industry, is ready to hire 100 people throughout Italy by March 2026 to work in its Services division (train, tram and metro maintenance services). This was announced by the company during a ceremony organised in Sesto San Giovanni (on the outskirts of Milan) to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Lombardy plant. The event was attended, among others, by Michele Viale, general director of Alstom in Italy, and Alvise Biffi, president of Assolombarda. Alstom is the manufacturer of the Italo high-speed train, the competitor of Trenitalia's Frecciarossa (FS group) produced by Hitachi Rail.
The required profiles
.The job opportunities offered by Alstom, a French-based multinational, in the Services business in Italy concern: technical profiles specialised in railway maintenance, with electrical and electro-mechanical skills; graduates in mechanical, electronic and management engineering, preferably with an educational background or specialisation in industrial automation or railway vehicle technologies. At the same time, the continuation of the investments underway in Italy for the Services business, amounting to EUR 25 million, was confirmed, with the aim of strengthening industrial activities, expanding production capacity and territorial presence, and accelerating the digital transformation of processes through continuous research and innovation. Alstom's Services division has more than 1,180 professionals located in the sites of Sesto San Giovanni, Nola (Naples), Savigliano (Cuneo), Vado Ligure (Savona), Rome, Bologna, Florence, and more than 40 depots throughout the country. Services provides tailor-made solutions for maintenance, modernisation and lifecycle management of rail vehicles and infrastructure.
The Sesto San Giovanni site
.Acquired by Alstom in 2000, the Sesto site is now a centre of excellence for the production, maintenance, overhaul and repair of subsystems and railway components for high-speed trains, regional trains, trams and metros. Thanks to the skills of more than 300 people and international synergies, the site manufactures more than 1,500 components a year, including traction converters, shunting benches and other subsystems, and more than 12,000 spare parts and repairs. The plant houses an innovative 3D printing laboratory dedicated to the production of spare parts for major railway operators. It is also equipped with a control room that monitors the reliability and availability of fleets in commercial service and this year received the Assolombarda Awards 2025 in the 'Digitisation' category for its high performance and adoption of advanced digital solutions. According to the Impact Report carried out by EY for Alstom Italia, in fiscal year 2024 alone the company generated an added value to the Italian GDP of over EUR 1.019 billion. A result that confirms Alstom's deep integration with the national economic fabric.
