Revolution announced by Amazon. The Seattle-based eCommerce giant has in fact decided to shorten the return period for products that go to return. It is reduced from the current 30 days to 14 days for consumer electronics products (such as smartphones, for instance).

A move, that of the world's fifth largest company by capitalisation, which represents a clear change of course. Not least because Amazon has always been a pioneer of long-term returns: 30 days to return an item free of charge, provided certain basic conditions are met (i.e. that the item is as good as new).

The new returns policy will come into force on 25 March 2024 and will also affect the Italian market. And it will effectively put an end to a number of practices widely used by some users.

When we refer to electronic and multimedia products, we are referring to a vast universe of devices. And so this change will affect a range of very popular items in the Amazon catalogue, such as smartphones, headsets, headphones, tablets and laptops.

Amazon also provided important details on how the new policy will apply regardless of shipping channel. The new return period will be automatically displayed on the purchase page of each product, providing users with constant information about it.

Furthermore, the Bezos team has provided for a transition period between 25 March and 25 April 2024, during which a 30-day return window will still be available. From 26 April, however, the new 14-day period will become mandatory.

One important aspect concerns third-party sellers operating on Amazon. According to the new regulation, items handled by such sellers will at least have to comply with the e-commerce giant's return policies. This means that a period of at least 14 days will have to be guaranteed, with the possibility of extending it at each seller's discretion.
