Amendment to the Sports Decree: closure of swimming pools with non-compliant inlets

Swimming pools with non-compliant suction inlets face closure. This is provided for in an amendment to the Sports Decree-Law currently being debated in the Chamber of Deputies.
The cross-party amendment, tabled by the Culture Committee and supported by all parliamentary groups, applies to “all swimming pools, whether public, private, open to the public or communal”, as Lega MP Laura Cavandoli explains.
If the shortcoming is not rectified, the proposal provides for the closure of the facility. The amendment, as explained by Paolo Barelli, Under-Secretary for Relations with Parliament, has been introduced “partly in light of recent incidents, to ensure that swimming pools incorporate all the necessary technological safeguards to prevent suction currents from posing a risk to bathers”.
The amendment was tabled in the Chamber this afternoon, set aside, and will be put to the vote tomorrow.
