America’s Cup: a call for 20 innovative projects linked to the blue economy
An initiative by the City of Naples and Invitalia to promote better organisation and economic benefits from the event to be held in 2027
A call for proposals to select up to 20 innovative ideas to be implemented for the America’s Cup, which will take place in Naples in 2027.
This is an initiative by the City of Naples and Invitalia, which have launched a ‘call for ideas’ with the support of the America’s Cup, aimed at start-ups, spin-offs and individuals with innovative projects dedicated to the blue economy and, in particular, to the world of sailing and related sectors: tourism, transport, sport, sustainability, safety and smart cities.
The initiative forms part of the programme to promote the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup and aims to transform this major sporting event into a catalyst for innovation, economic growth and enhanced appeal for the Naples area. Up to 20 innovative ideas will be selected, submitted by individuals or by start-ups and spin-offs established no more than six months prior to the date of publication of the call for proposals. The selected projects will embark on a six-month programme hosted within the City of Naples’ technology laboratories at the Real Albergo dei Poveri, designed to support the ideas from the definition of the business model through to validation, from prototyping to market launch.
The projects selected will be offered services and support: specialist mentoring from industry experts, researchers, entrepreneurs and leading companies; training and support on business design, fundraising, go-to-market strategies and strategic development; advice on intellectual property and market strategies; exclusive access to the technological resources of the Albergo dei Poveri laboratories for prototyping and development, with expert support from the Meditech Competence Centre; networking with public and private stakeholders, potential investors and industrial partners.
Invitalia will also offer support in identifying the most suitable funding schemes for each project, giving priority to initiatives led predominantly by people under 35 and/or women.
