America’s Cup: the Prefect of Naples orders inspections at the Bagnoli shipyards
Joint task forces are carrying out investigations into the compliance of contracted works and into any operators under scrutiny by the anti-Mafia authorities.
Strict checks are being carried out at the Bagnoli construction sites where work is underway for the America’s Cup. The Prefect of Naples has issued a decree granting access to the Bagnoli construction sites on Via Coroglio, where work is currently underway on projects linked to the 38th America’s Cup, scheduled to take place in Naples in 2027.
Joint task forces comprising the State Police, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, with the support of naval units, are carrying out investigations under the coordination of staff at the Operations Centre of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate in Naples, as part of the Anti-Mafia Inspection Group.
The checks, ordered in the exercise of the prefect’s powers in the fight against organised crime, are intended to ascertain whether the contracted activities are being carried out in accordance with the rules and to verify whether any economic entities of interest from an anti-mafia perspective are involved.
In particular, the investigations concern a company that may be of interest in the context of anti-Mafia efforts; checks are currently being carried out on this company to establish whether it is involved in construction site activities and to verify the legitimacy of the arrangements relating to the works currently under construction.
Law enforcement officers deployed at the site are also carrying out checks on the presence of workers, the vehicles used and any companies operating on the site, including checks to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
