An autumn full of jazz
Rome's Auditorium Parco della Musica hosts the 49th Jazz Festival; Jazz Festivals also in Padua, Bologna, Ferrara and Forlì
In this part of autumn and the November festivities, we can choose from three festivals dedicated to jazz. In Rome, we have now reached the 49th edition, which will be closed by the special voice of Cécile McLorin Salvant. Another voice, a star, is that of Dee Dee Bridgewater, in Bologna; while in Padua comes the black music of Stanley Clarke.
Rome
Now in its 49th edition, the Roma Jazz Festival will be held from 1 to 23 November at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, the Casa del Jazz and the Monk. Makaya McCraven, Chicago drummer and producer, one of the most innovative and influential artists on the contemporary scene, will open the event. Musicians include the David Murray Quartet, Joe Sanders, Bilal, Camilla George, Amaro Freitas, Peter Erskine Dr.Um Band, Jemma Collective, Dock in Absolute, L'Antidote, Alina Bzhezhinska, Sade Mangiaracina with Bonnot and Gianluca Petrella, Hakan Basar Trio, Adrien Brandeis, Daniel Bulatkin, Bernhard Wiesinger.
Cecile McLorin Salvant, born in Miami of a French mother and Haitian father, also trained in classical music, concludes; in addition to being a singer who surprises with her vocal technique and storytelling skills, McLorin Salvant is also a composer and visual artist. In her concerts, she creates connections between vaudeville, blues, jazz, folk, telling stories of diaspora, environment, cultural appropriation.
Padova
From 6 to 23 November, the Padua Jazz Festival, where we listen to black music of fusion virtuosity (Stanley Clarke), the Afro-American matrix of Cécile McLorin Salvant, social commitment translated into sonic futurism (Camilla George); Cuban music, with the piano of Roberto Fonseca and Alfredo Rodriguez; Italian jazz musicians with Roberto Gatto, Max Ionata, Matteo Paggi; the US scene with Uri Caine.
The concerts take place at the Verdi Theatre, the Sala dei Giganti at the Liviano, Caffè Pedrocchi, the Altinate/San Gaetano Cultural Centre and the Nuova Sant'Agnese (Peruzzo Foundation), as well as the University's lecture halls.
