Atlantic weather system on the way: widespread rain and a drop in temperatures of up to 20°C in the north and 24°C in the south
A North Atlantic weather front will bring bad weather and falling temperatures to parts of Italia, bringing an end to September’s unseasonably warm spell with rain and thunderstorms, particularly from Thursday onwards
“Following the hottest summer on record, and a warm September with temperatures above the seasonal average, a North Atlantic weather system is set to bring the first drop in temperatures across much of Italy.”
Lorenzo Tedici, a meteorologist at iLMeteo.it, said: “Over the next few hours, widespread unsettled weather will continue to affect the south; then, from Wednesday morning, the bad weather will be concentrated in the north-west before moving towards the north-east and Tuscany.”
“Thursday will be the most unsettled day, with frequent rain and thunderstorms, most widespread across eastern Liguria, Tuscany and the Triveneto region.
From Thursday afternoon, the weather systems will move towards Sardinia and Campania, with severe instability continuing on Friday across much of the peninsula.
This North Atlantic front will not only bring rain – which will be welcome given the moderate drought affecting some parts of Italy – but will also cause maximum temperatures to drop to around 20°C in the north and to 22–24°C in central and southern Italy as well. – concludes Tedici –
