Another rally took place yesterday, with more than 50 anarchists gathering in Rome in the morning at the junction of Via Lemonia and Circonvallazione Tuscolana, near a church, to commemorate and bring flowers to the place where Sara Ardizzone and Alessandro Mercogliano, the two anarchists who died when a bomb exploded in a farmhouse in the Parco degli Acquedotti, in the Appio Claudio area, lost their lives. The memorial service, which had been banned, took place under the control of a large deployment of police forces, with several vehicles and the presence also of officers on horseback. During the commemoration, chants were heard and bouquets of flowers were seen, also red and black, the colours of one of the anarchists' symbolic flags.
"Today in Rome, 91 demonstrators adhering to anarchist movements were stopped by the police force, who despite the prohibition of the Questura wanted to commemorate the two criminals who died while preparing a bomb in the Parco degli acquedotti cottage in Rome. Zero tolerance against these accomplices of anarchist terrorists: the League's new Antifa law, which I am about to file as first signatory, is on its way. It will define Antifa, which have nothing to do with true antifascism, as terrorist organisations and will ban anarchist associations and extremist antagonist militant groups that jeopardise the security and stability of our country with their violent actions,' said Eugenio Zoffili, leader of the League's group in the Defence Committee at the Chamber of Deputies, in a note.
The security decree 'does not serve to restrict the freedom to demonstrate as certain left-wingers claim. On the contrary, it serves to ensure that demonstrations take place in a peaceful and non-violent manner, as provided for in the Constitution, and to protect those who want to exercise that right in a civilised manner, without violence and without devastation. It is in this direction that the government will continue to move: more tools to guarantee security for all and more protection for those who want to demonstrate peacefully'. Premier Giorgia Meloni wrote this on Facebook commenting on the 91 preventive arrests made today in the anarchist area in Rome.
