Anci-Coldiretti agreement, food education passes through canteens

A structural collaboration between Italian municipalities and the agricultural world to enhance national productions, protect territories and promote healthy and sustainable food models. This is the essence of the objectives of the Protocol of Understanding, signed in Rome between Coldiretti and Anci (National Association of Italian Municipalities), in which agriculture is recognised as having a multifunctional role in the protection of the landscape, the health of citizens and social cohesion, giving local administrations a key role as community guardians.

Particular attention will be paid to group catering, with a commitment to increase the use in public and school canteens of products made in Italy, local, seasonal, organic and from short supply chains.
A chapter of the agreement is then dedicated to food education, with initiatives aimed especially at the youngest to promote correct lifestyles, enhance the Mediterranean Diet, and counteract the spread of ultra-formulated products.Waste tax (Tari) regulations, in view of the peculiarities of the activities of agricultural enterprises and the waste produced.

'The agreement,' said the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti with Anci delegation to agriculture, 'envisages a number of important points such as the processing of wine and food products, typical products, and products from the agricultural world, hence from the primary sector, with respect to our country. We think that municipalities can certainly do a lot'.

According to the president of Coldiretti, the protocol 'is far-sighted'. "Because," explained Ettore Prandini, "it focuses on the role that municipalities play in our territory, which is so often underestimated, but which we have always considered to be one of the pivotal elements that can help us in aiming to increase the quality of life of our citizens, starting with the new generations.
