Ansaldo Energia has signed a contract for the development of a gas-fired combined-cycle power plant at the Tiszaújváros site of the Mvm Tisza Erőmű company in Hungary. The official agreement, technicians explain, marks the start of the executive design, procurement, and turnkey construction of what will be Hungary's most efficient large-scale power plant.

On behalf of the project owner, representatives of Mvm Tisza Erőmű (part of the Mvm group) signed the contract. The consortium that won the public tender for the construction and long-term maintenance of the gas turbines consists of two members: the Italian Ansaldo Energia and the Turkish ÇalÕk holding conglomerate. As part of the project, the Italian group will supply two GT26 gas turbines, two steam turbines and two generators.

Csaba Lantos, Minister of Energy, emphasised that the Hungarian state supports the development of the national energy sector and is committed to green and sustainable solutions. "The construction of the new power plant is of historical importance," he said, "as no new baseload generation plant has been built in Hungary in the past 15 years. It is also a crucial step for national energy production, as it will contribute to strengthening energy independence, improving security of supply and achieving climate goals."

The new plant, he concluded, 'will also play a key role in balancing renewable energy production, thus supporting a successful energy transition. Once commercially operational, the 1,000-megawatt combined cycle power plant, consisting of two units, will supply an average of around 7,500 gigawatt hours of electricity per year to the Hungarian electricity grid'.

According to Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, 'the Mvm Tisza power plant will be the most efficient in the country, ready to meet Hungary's growth and growing energy needs. This agreement represents a decisive step towards strengthening national energy security. At Ansaldo Energia, we are proud to make available our most advanced technologies - ready for the use of hydrogen - combining exceptional reliability with extraordinary efficiency and operational flexibility'.
