Ansaldo Energia incorporates the Nuclear division as a business unit
CEO Fabbri: “This is a necessary move because we intend to invest hundreds of millions in nuclear power”
The respective boards of directors have given the go-ahead to the proposed merger, by incorporation, of Ansaldo Nucleare into Ansaldo Energia, with the ad hoc creation of the Nuclear business unit. The new organisation, explains the group’s CEO, Fabrizio Fabbri, has been established with the aim of further strengthening the role of nuclear power in the group’s growth strategy and accelerating its development, by leveraging Ansaldo Energia’s industrial scale and investment capacity. “The operation was necessary because we intend to invest hundreds of millions in nuclear power,” says Fabbri, “and we could not have done so in a company that currently has a turnover of just 118 million and an order intake of 89 million.”
Fabbri emphasises once again that nuclear power “is returning to the forefront of long-term energy strategies in Europe. Through this integration, we are further strengthening the role of nuclear power within Ansaldo Energia, combining specialist expertise, industrial capabilities and financial stability. Our aim is to accelerate the development of the group’s nuclear activities, contributing to the growth of the Italian nuclear sector and to strengthening the country’s energy security and competitiveness.”
The project will soon be presented to the trade unions
The company explains that the operation will undergo the subsequent authorisation stages, in accordance with the prescribed procedures; and the project will be ‘presented in full to the trade unions, as part of the planned process of consultation and dialogue with workers’ representatives’. Within the new organisation, Daniela Gentile, currently CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, will take on the role of Executive Vice President for Nuclear at Ansaldo Energia, leading the business unit and strategic development initiatives in the sector.
As a manufacturer of steam turbines and generators, including those for nuclear power stations, the company emphasises that the group will draw on its proven expertise in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management and long-term services, ensuring full continuity of operations, certifications, ongoing programmes and relationships with customers and partners, as well as greater cost efficiency.
“This organisational development,” says Gentile, “highlights the synergy between the nuclear expertise developed over more than 60 years of activity and the group’s industrial capabilities. In a rapidly growing market, we will be able to offer customers even more comprehensive support in the development and implementation of next-generation nuclear programmes.” The new business unit has therefore been established with the aim of continuing Ansaldo Energia’s work on programmes to extend the operational life of existing plants, on small modular reactors (SMRs), on advanced fourth-generation reactors and on major international nuclear fusion projects.
