Ansaldo returns to the US market with a contract for eight turbines

Ansaldo Energia is returning to the US market after more than 30 years. The Italian company has signed a contract with Pacifico Energy to supply eight gas turbines (AE64.3A, in a 60-hertz configuration), together with the associated generators, as part of a strategic power generation project to support a data centre in Texas. The company explains that the agreement “represents a significant milestone for Ansaldo, marking the company’s return to the US market for new power generation plants. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2027”.

The small gas turbine used, as noted in a statement, is specifically designed for 60 hertz applications, ‘thanks to its configuration featuring a gearbox and a dedicated generator. With over 70 units installed worldwide and more than 4 million equivalent operating hours’, the turbine is ‘particularly well-suited to the modular and redundant architectures typical of data centres’.

“This project,” says Stefano Gianatti, Executive Vice President of Thermal New Units at Ansaldo Energia, “highlights the increasingly important role of flexible gas-fired power generation in supporting the expansion of digital infrastructure for artificial intelligence. In a context where data centre operators are seeking reliable and scalable solutions, Ansaldo’s technology portfolio is well positioned to ensure a secure, efficient and reliable energy supply for applications requiring maximum operational continuity. The rapid growth of artificial intelligence and digital services is generating unprecedented demand for continuously available energy, and the AE64.3A is particularly well-suited to meeting the ever-evolving needs of data centre operators.” The agreement also paves the way “for potential further collaborations between the company and Pacifico Energy, in a data centre market that continues to experience strong growth”.
