The anxiety of Italian tourists stranded in the Maldives: 'My father needs medication'
Chronicles of a dream holiday turned into a nightmare
Stranded in the Maldives without knowing when they will be able to board their first flight home. These are the Italians left in Malè waiting for answers from the Farnesina Crisis Unit. For the moment the solution seems to be that of a 'staggered' return. Some of them, in fact, could land in Italia already in the next few hours.
Other travellers remain in the archipelago. The hypothesis remains that of travelling by alternative means, but at their own expense. The hunt for tickets has begun, which, however, has not been the route taken by many due to both the high prices and the race lost at the start to grab the last available seats.
The story
A testimony from overseas conveys the anguish of tourists immobilised in airports with the hope of being boarded. Speaking is a girl, stuck in the capital with no chance of leaving the country.
"The feeling is that of being completely abandoned," he tells us, "My father needs life-saving medication. A problem for which the Consulate has mobilised, booking a flight for the man with which he could probably return tomorrow.
However, the problem remains for those waiting to leave without any special medical needs, trapped - in addition to Asia - in their anxieties.
