If Apple is betting big on artificial intelligence with Apple Intelligence, this move cannot escape the training of students attending Developer Academies around the world. And indeed, the Cupertino-based company has announced a new AI training programme that will be available from this autumn for Apple Develper Academy students in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Brazil, Indonesia, Italy and the United States.

The new programme will be offered "to continue to expand opportunities for developers, designers, entrepreneurs and businesswomen who want to pursue careers in the burgeoning iOS app economy, and beyond," reads the launch note issued by Apple.

The AI programme is added to the Academy's curriculum as a core competency, expanding the set of core competencies in programming, professional skills, design and marketing that are already offered and that aim to help students acquire the necessary skill set to contribute to local businesses and communities.

"At Apple, we view coding as a universal language and believe in the importance of providing developers, creators, entrepreneurs and business owners around the world with tools and technologies that enable them to create phenomenal experiences," said Susan Prescott, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. "With the introduction of the programme dedicated to AI and other new technologies, we can't wait to see what students can create for their communities and the world."

Starting this autumn, therefore, those studying at the Apple Developer Academy will benefit from a specially created programme that will teach how to build, train and deploy machine learning models on Apple devices. Courses will include the fundamentals of AI technologies and frameworks; Core ML and its ability to deliver fast performance on Apple devices; and instruction on how to build and train AI models from scratch. Students will learn through project-based assignments that include assistance from hundreds of mentors and more than 12,000 Academy alumni worldwide.

With the introduction of new Apple technologies and APIs announced at WWDC24, users will have access to even more tools for realising projects and apps. One example is Xcode 16, which sets a new standard for developer productivity. New features and performance improvements also include Swift Assist, which accompanies all programming tasks and makes it easy to explore new frameworks and experiment with new ideas. In addition, Swift 6 introduces new features to improve code clarity and facilitate concurrent programming.
