Utility bills, ARERA: gas prices up 6.9 per cent for vulnerable customers in August
The reason is the rise in the price of the raw material, which has gone up from 56.68 to 64.15 euros per MWh
For the month of August 2026, the price of gas for vulnerable customers is 143.72 euro cents per cubic metre, representing a 6.9 per cent increase compared with July. This was announced by ARERA, the public energy regulator responsible for setting gas tariffs for vulnerable customers, who are still subject to protected pricing. The reason for this is the rise in the price of the raw material, which has risen from 56.68 to 64.15 euros per MWh.
“‘Wholesale prices rose sharply in August 2026,’ writes ARERA in a press release, ‘and the total bill for the typical consumer has increased by 6.9 per cent compared with the previous month. Consequently, for the approximately 2.3 million customers still covered by the Vulnerability Protection Scheme, the price of the gas commodity alone (excluding system charges and dispatching costs, ed.) stands at 64.15 euros per megawatt-hour (it was 56.68 euros in July, ed.)”.
