Artificial intelligence at the service of fleets
From stolen vehicle recovery to driver welfare, the goal of apps and platforms is to increase safety

The increasing digitisation of fleet management is no mystery to fleet managers, struggling with the latest developments, and it is not, of course, a mystery to fleet management companies. Long gone are the days when the organisation of the fleet and the data connected to it was done by simple spreadsheets updated by hand. Now the focus is on apps and platforms, primarily to improve safety. Precisely for this reason, Geotab has recently launched Risk Analysis, an AI (artificial intelligence) based tool that provides fleet managers with clear information on driver-specific risk factors.
Safety was the focus of Geotab Day 2025. According to Franco Viganò, Director, Strategic Channel Development & Country Manager at Geotab, 'the fleet industry needs to prioritise driver well-being, using data and technology not only to promote efficiency, but also to create safer and less stressful working environments'.
Webfleet also addressed this issue, presenting Webfleet Video 2.0, which combines AI and cameras to provide targeted information on driver behaviour and potential risks. "With Webfleet Video 2.0 we are raising fleet safety standards," explained Jan-Maarten de Vries, President Fleet Management Solutions at Bridgestone. "By combining AI-based monitoring with real-time video analytics, we provide the tools to proactively manage risks and improve driver well-being."
The impact of new technologies can extend to all-round fleet management, even for the most thorny aspects, such as the recovery of stolen vehicles. According to a survey by LoJack, over 136,000 vehicles were stolen in Italy in 2024, registering new growth (+3%) and returning to pre-Covid levels. This is 'a worrying risk for owners of the models most coveted by thieves, and one that, as a counter-offensive, calls for swift and effective action to reduce the chances of the vehicle's tracks being lost forever,' stresses Maurizio Iperti, LoJack's Emea President.
For the timely recovery of stolen vehicles, Targa Telematics offers the Stolen Vehicles Recovery service, which is based on AI and machine learning. Targa Telematics recently received the 'European Market Leadership' award from Frost&Sullivan for its quality of service, 24/7 control room and commitment to digitisation and sustainability. "We are constantly designing and developing digital platforms to enable services for different market segments: from fleet management to insurance, to smart mobility, with a lean and customer-oriented approach," emphasises Nicola De Mattia, CEO of Targa Telematics.
