A US federal judge awarded a victory to Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, dismissing a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by a group of authors who accused the company of stealing their works to 'train' its artificial intelligence technology.

The ruling was the second in a week by a San Francisco federal court to reject major copyright claims by book authors against the fast-growing artificial intelligence industry. However, the judge also stated that the ruling is limited to the authors in question and does not imply that Meta's use of copyrighted materials is lawful.
