Ascani (Pd): 'Vote 2027, sanctions are needed to prevent Ia and foreign states from conditioning the election campaign'
Provided for a reporting mechanism to Agcom, which becomes responsible for both ordering the immediate removal of fake or altered content and imposing administrative sanctions
We are in the referendum campaign and in a year's time we will be campaigning for general elections. Yet we are defenceless against the possible incursions of artificial intelligence and, even worse, the intrusions of foreign states that aim to heterodirect the outcome of the vote by conditioning public opinion. It is from this concern that the bill presented to the Chamber of Deputies by Anna Ascani, MP of the PD, was born.
Today there is no deterrent against the distortion of election campaigns by the Ai or others?
There is only the crime of deepfake, but it is not enough because the criminal process has its own timeframe, much longer than an election campaign, so it cannot be effective and does not solve the problem.
What do you propose in your bill to curb this phenomenon?
I have provided for a reporting mechanism to Agcom, which becomes responsible for both ordering the immediate removal of fake or altered content and imposing administrative sanctions.
