E21: inflazione sale al 2,9% annuo a luglio dal 2,8% di giugno (RCO)
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - A mixed morning for the European stock markets, as investors assess the impact of rising sovereign bond yields – which remain close to the highs reached the previous day – whilst a fresh wave of selling in tech shares is once again fuelling recurring concerns about a bubble in the sector. Long-term Treasury yields stand at around 5.27 per cent after rising on Tuesday to a 20-year high of 5.3371 per cent. German government bonds, whose yields had risen to their highest level since 2011, and French government bonds, which have seen yields rise by 50 basis points since June, have also remained largely unchanged.
On the macroeconomic front, meanwhile, the situation in the Middle East remains under scrutiny , with fears of a further escalation : US President Donald Trump has stated that no talks with Iran are currently taking place, nor are any planned. The US President has also described the Strait of Hormuz as ‘new US territory’, whilst, according to the Financial Times, Tehran is reportedly prepared to strike US military targets in Europe as well. Investors are also awaiting the publication of the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting, from which they hope to gain clarity on the US central bank’s intentions regarding the outlook for interest rates, especially now that inflationary fears have been reignited due to rising energy commodity prices.
The FTSE MIB in Milan is trading so close to parity, in line with the other major continental indices.
Unitree soars on its debut, but the tech sector remains under pressure
As for the technology sector, whilst the debut of the Chinese humanoid robotics group Unitree was met with a surge in share prices of over 600 per cent, other stocks in the sector were hit by selling across all Asian markets, following the weakness seen on Wall Street the previous day.
On the Milan Stock Exchange, shares are losing ground Stmicroelectronics and Technoprobe are losing ground on the Milan Stock Exchange. The sector is particularly affected by rises in long-term interest rates, as it relies heavily on borrowed capital to finance its growth.
