Attack on Sigfrido Ranucci: the interrogations of the perpetrators. The defence: ‘There are no aggravating circumstances relating to the Mafia’
At Rebibbia prison in Rome, the public prosecutor will hear evidence from Pellegrino D’Avino and Antonio Passariello, two of the four individuals arrested on 30 June on charges of being the perpetrators of the attack
The questioning of those arrested in connection with the attack outside the home of Sigfrido Ranucci, presenter of *Report*, is now in full swing. Today, at Rebibbia prison in Rome, Pellegrino D’Avino and Antonio Passariello – two of the four individuals arrested on 30 June on charges of carrying out the attack – will be questioned by the public prosecutor.
It was the defence lawyers themselves who requested the questioning. ‘We expect plenty of questions; as for the answers, we’ll have to wait and see. They will certainly respond to the charges. It is a hearing that we have requested; the prosecutor will ask the questions and we will, of course, present our defence,” explained lawyers Generoso Pagliarulo and Antonio Falconieri, who are representing three of the four arrested men, before entering Rebibbia prison.
The defence contests the mafia-related aggravating circumstance
At the heart of the defence strategy is also the challenge to the ‘mafia-related’ aggravating circumstance. According to the lawyers, in fact, the conditions for pre-trial detention do not even apply to their clients.
“In our view, they shouldn’t be in prison, not least because we believe there are no aggravating circumstances relating to the Mafia,” added Pagliarulo and Falconieri whilst speaking to reporters.
The questioning of D’Avino and Passariello therefore marks a new stage in the investigation into the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci. The two suspects are required to answer the public prosecutor’s questions and give their account of the charges brought against them.
