At the Its Angelo Rizzoli new headquarters and record number of employees

The contribution of companies is crucial. Tailor-made training offer for entry into the world of work.

One of the youngsters I meet between a talking robot and a screen from which to control a production line tells us that he is here because at the age of 16 he decided he wanted to develop a wheelchair that would allow him to move over any terrain.

But to do that, you have to develop the technology. That is why he is here, at the age of 20, enrolled in the Industrial digital Transformation course at the Its Academy Angelo Rizzoli in Milan. Which this year can count on a brand new headquarters, in the heart of Quarto Oggiaro, to complement the historic one in the Farini area where the administrative offices remain.

Training offer and the role of companies

Fifteen courses and an increasing number of students needed more space. Just as the state-of-the-art laboratories financed with money from the Pnrr and from companies such as Lenovo, which supplies instrumentation and damaged PCs to the Its Academy Rizzoli, such as Cecchi Srl, which supplied the instrumentation for the automation laboratory, and J&W Srl, which supplied the instrumentation for the Control Room, needed more space.

Environment useful for induction at work

"The Foundation has grown a lot in recent years and it was necessary to find new spaces. Here an environment similar to that of a company is reproduced, which is important for our students, because it is true that they are attending a training course, but one that is aimed at integration into the world of work," explains Ester Crisanti, operations director of ITS Rizzoli.

It is therefore no coincidence that the courses are designed around the needs of companies: big data specialist, cyber defence specialist, coding and AI specialist (to name but a few). As of this year, a course on the metaverse has also been included.

The opportunities for students

Many of the students come from technical institutes, but there is an increase in those coming from high schools, especially the scientific high school. And among those enrolled are also those who attended university for some time, but realised that it was not their path. There are still too few girls, especially in graphic design and communication courses.

Two years of training, in the classroom or laboratory, and 820 hours of in-company training. So that when they leave, the students are professionals ready to enter the world of work as junior operators. But in many cases, already in their second year, they are employed on an apprenticeship contract, so that they alternate between being in the company and training.

This year there were 350 graduates, with an average placement rate of 90 per cent.
