(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Renewable fuels to accompany the ecological evolution of the automotive sector was the focus of the second Italian stage of the 'Tour d'Europe' held at Palazzo Lombardia. The initiative, which saw the participation of the Regional Councillor for Economic Development, Guido Guidesi, was promoted by companies and associations in the automotive sector, including Enilive. It is a travelling event that follows the journey of several light and heavy vehicles, fuelled by fuels produced from renewable raw materials, through 20 European countries, with the aim of highlighting the importance of biofuels in the decarbonisation of transport.

Guidesi: 'Technological neutrality is needed'

'This initiative is part of a journey that started three years ago. A battle characterised by our desire to save the automotive industry, which is indispensable for European manufacturing,' Guidesi explained. "Today we reiterate the need, which can no longer be postponed, for a clear change in European regulations; we also confirm, as we have always done, that we share environmental objectives, but without imposing a single type of traction; The principle of 'technological neutrality' must be clearly sanctioned, leaving citizens free to choose which car to use,' the councillor continued, explaining that 'the 'Tour d'Europe' initiative promoted by Enlive, which we have decided to present in the Lombardy Region, represents the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle that we have built over three years of technical-scientific work involving everyone, from local authorities to companies and universities. In fact, Guidesi stressed, 'Lombardy's work has long been in the hands of the European Commission, which we are asking to save the automotive industry by changing the stupid rules imposed. Now it is only and exclusively political will because we have taken care of the technical-scientific elements'.

For some time now, the Lombardy Region has set itself the objective of moving to defend the automotive sector and the components supply chain, companies and jobs, pushing for environmentally sustainable alternatives that are not limited to the electric motor. It has also done so recently by promoting the update of the 'Renewable Fuels Manifesto for the Mobility Production Chains in Lombardy' signed by the main stakeholders and trade associations and presented last April in Brussels, at the seat of the European Parliament, by Councillor Guidesi.

Enilive among project promoters

"We immediately decided to support the 'Tour d'Europe' because it brings together companies, institutions and associations to valorise HVO biofuels, which Enilive produces in its Italian biorefineries and distributes in more than 1,300 service stations. Biofuels are a solution that has already been adopted to contribute to the reduction of emissions from air transport, thanks to the European RefuelEU regulation, and they can give an important support to the transition of road vehicles as well, including the so-called 'hard-to-abate' ones, and initiatives such as the 'Tour d'Europe' are very important for this," said Andrea di Stefano, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Enilive.

In addition to Enilive, the 'Tour d'Europe' is also supported by Avia, Bmw, Bosch, Collective du Bioéthanol, Daf Trucks, Ebb, ePure, Ewaba, FuelsEurope, Honda, Hyundai, Iru, Iveco, Moeve, Neste, Prio, Repsol, Tja, Transportes Aguieira, University Darmstadt, University Karlsruhe and Vigo bioenergy.
