The nineteenth edition of "Vitigno Italia, Salone dei vini e dei territori vitivinicoli italiani" is kicking off at Naples' Stazione Marittima until Tuesday 13th. An event that over time has been able to carve out an important space for itself to the point of becoming a real point of reference for local wineries and those from other regions.
About 200 companies were present (with over a thousand labels for tasting), 40% from Campania but also from Sicily, Calabria, Apulia, Abruzzo, Piedmont, Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli. Various protection consortia were also present (from Prosecco Docg to the Vesuvio Consortium to the Consorzio vita salernum vitaes and the Friuli Doc consortium). Ten thousand tickets are expected to be sold over the three days.
The international presence is increasingly strong and qualified with 25 buyers selected together with Ice Agenzia (thanks to a decade-long synergy) and coming from the USA, Scandinavia, the UK, France, Austria and Japan.
"Over the last few years we have tried to develop a dual role," explains the director of Vitigno Italia, Maurizio Teti. "We offer the wineries present a chance for internationalisation and at the same time a stage for companies from other regions that want to make themselves known to the great food and wine of an area that, between Naples, the islands of the Gulf and the Amalfi Coast, is by now one of the most popular tourist destinations. In recent years we have seen these territories go from the waste emergency to overtourism, and in this transition business opportunities have multiplied for the wineries of the South and beyond'.
