Audi A3 gets off the ground and does so by travelling almost 140 kilometres on electric power. It does so thanks to the Audi A3 40 Sportback Allstreet Tfsi e, a plug-in hybrid powered by the 1.5 miller cycle engine combined with a 25.7 kWh battery capable of recharging up to 50 kW direct current. 30 millimetres higher from the ground and characterised by specific solutions, the A3 Allestreet phev will arrive in Italian dealerships during the first quarter of 2025.

Audi A3 plug-in hybrid

Under the bonnet of the Audi A3 40 Sportback Allstreet Tfsi we find the 1.5 TFSI evo2 - turbocharged direct injection petrol engine - with 150 horsepower and 250 Nm characterised by the Miller cycle combined with a permanent magnet synchronous electric power unit (PSM) capable of delivering 116 horsepower and 330 Nm. Overall power comes to 204 horsepower, 350 Nm of torque, a 0-100 km/h sprint covered in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h.

New Audi A3 plug-in, range and charging

The new Audi A3 Plug-in hybrid achieves a range of 138 kilometres, with Wltp homologation, thanks to its 25.7 kWh high-voltage battery pack, equivalent to 19.7 kWh effective. As on the A3 Sportback TFSI and, the A3 Allstreet phev can be refuelled with direct current (DC) power up to 50 kW (up to 40 kW according to the Din 70080 standard) which translates into less than 30 minutes to bring the energy level in the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent. In parallel, it is possible to recharge in alternating current (AC) with powers of up to 11 kW. The complete refuelling process, in this case, takes 2.5 hours.

As a basic setting, the A3 Allstreet phev  starts in Ev mode, allowing it to travel as a pure electric, while the Auto Hybrid drive programme encourages interaction between the combustion engine and the electron engine. Similarly to the Audi A3 Sportback Tfsi e, it is possible to opt for energy saving. Turning to the recovery system, we find a system derived from the 100% Audi-produced models. Electro-hydraulic braking sees the electric motor, called upon to act as an alternator, take care of mild decelerations: the most frequent in everyday driving. Medium-intensity braking above 0.3 g is handled jointly by the zero-emission unit and conventional brakes, or by the hydraulic system alone. During deceleration the electron motor recovers energy up to a maximum of 43 kW of electrical power. By means of steering wheel-mounted levers, it is possible to influence the level of recovery.

Audi A3 Allstreet, what changes

What changes between an Audi A3 Sportback and an Audi A3 Allestreet? The all terrain version is characterised by a series of specific all terrain details starting with the miniskirts, wheel arches and contrasting trim complemented by the matt black octagonal single frame, accompanied by the honeycomb grille with a more pronounced vertical development than on the A3 Sportback and A3 Sedan. The list includes the 30 mm raised stance and the placement of the lithium ion battery under the floorpan, 'drowned' in the rear seat area, which has led to a specific suspension calibration compared to the Tdi and Tfsi variants.
