More kilometres on electric power for the Audi A3 Allstreet 'Tfsi e', the compact car with a raised trim that proves it has all the qualities to be one of the most advanced plug-in hybrids on the market with a range of over 130 kilometres (138 km to be precise) and the possibility of recharging with direct current up to 50 kW. Three trim levels are available (Business, Business Advanced and Identity Contrast) and the list price starts at just under 51,000 euro.

We went to Cerreto Langhe, near Alba, to try out the latest innovation from the house of the four rings which, with the update of the plug-in hybrid system, has significantly increased the autonomy of its models, contributing to greater safety for those with range anxiety, without giving up the comfort typical of the Ingolstadt compact car. In short, a plug-in that practically replaces a turbodiesel and, what's more, is fiscally pleasing to company fleets.

The Allstreet version is characterised by its all-terrain look, which includes a 30 mm raised stance compared to the Sportback and Sedan variants, bringing with it a raised and dominant driving position.

Underlying this is the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform that allows compact dimensions: 4,353 mm long, 1,984 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,629 mm and a height of 1,470 mm. The boot capacity is 280 litres and reaches 1,100 litres by folding down the backrest of the rear bench.

The distribution of masses between the axles follows a 55/45 ratio between front and rear, a characteristic that influences both the driving feel and the placement of the lithium ion battery under the floorpan, in the rear seat area. Consequently, the suspension of the Audi A3 Allstreet Tfsi and benefits from a specific calibration, a technical highlight that is accompanied by the availability of progressive steering, with variable servo-assistance and gearing, direct and precise for the benefit of driving pleasure.

Audi's advanced plug-in hybrid technology (the same as that already seen in other models of the Volkswagen group to which the brand belongs) is based on the combination of the 150 hp and 250 Nm 1.5 TFSI evo2 thermal power unit with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (Psm) integrated in the 6-speed S tronic gearbox. The latter is capable of delivering 116 hp and 330 Nm, resulting in a total output of 204 hp and 350 Nm.

The torque peak is constant over a wide range, from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. Audi A3 Allstreet Tfsi and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and touches 225 km/h. Top speed in electric mode is 140 km/h. While the electric range is 138 kilometres (Wltp homologation cycle), thanks to the nominal capacity of the high-voltage battery of 25.7 kWh (19.7 kWh effective). A decidedly high value from which derives extraordinary mileage with a charged battery, in the order of over 300 km/litre, and equally low emissions: 7 - 8 grams/km of CO2.
